DIY Natural Room Scents

I saw this on Pinterest some months back and have always wanted to try it – today was my chance! I had some oranges lying around and decided to juice them.

Instead of throwing away the peels, I put them in a big saucepan, covered with cold water and added about four sticks of cassia bark and a small handful of cloves. Bring this mix to a boil and then simmer it. The smell will permeate everything and make you feel wonderfully Christmassy!

Once it cools, you can put it in a jar and in the fridge. The next time you need your place to smell lovely, repeat! If your jar is heatproof, you may even be able to place that directly on the stove, as I plan to do!

We’re having a weird kind of spring in Budapest – patchy weather, sometimes overcast and cold. As I type, I’ve got a mug of tea on my desk and am wearing a sweater and fluffy sheep slippers! So since the weather’s decided to act like it’s autumn and approaching winter, I thought our flat may as well smell like it!

And I have to say, it smells fantastic.

Try this out with whatever combinations of herbs, spices and fruit you have  – I’ve seen a great idea of bay leaves and pine needles so may try that one next. Let me know how it works out for you!
